The Global Transport Label, is a standard for container-labelling for use by suppliers and customers within the automotive industry. It was developed by collaboration between the members of Odette (Europe), AIAG (North America) and JAMA/JAPA (Japan) automotive associations representing more than 80% of worldwide production. The standard has recently been updated to include Data Matrix 2D symbologies.
Many of Eagle’s customers in the automotive sector are implementing new logistic models that will include changes in the current ways of working. This will utilise the GTL standard, in conjunction with global EDI messages, to be received from all suppliers (external ones and also in the intercompany business) and multiple material and information flows including the management with 3PL/4PL, VMI warehouses. Shipments will also be made incorporating the Global Transport Label.
As can be seen from the above label, the GTL contains a 22 digit Licence Plate number comprising a data identifier, vendor code and vendor unique serial number which should not be repeated within two years. The standard container number field within QAD is for eight digits and thus not sufficient to contain this license plate number. However, Eagle has developed enhanced functionality to be able to process the GTL license plate without changes any changes to QAD. This includes functionality from Goods-In through to Shipping.
